Smoked Meat -Montreal

Hello, Fellow Foodies!

If you’re anything like me, you know that the search for the perfect sandwich is a never-ending quest. And if you’re a fan of smoked meat, then Montreal should be at the top of your list.

As a photographer, of course I couldn’t resist capturing a few shots of these iconic sandwiches and the city that surrounds them. Every visit to Montreal is a feast for the senses and it never disappoints.

Recently, I had the pleasure of once again visiting this beautiful city and indulging in some of its smoked meat sandwiches.

From the moment I stepped into Schwartz’s, I knew I was in for a treat. The aroma of smoked meat filled the air, and the line of people waiting for a taste was a testament to its popularity. The sandwich lived up to the hype – tender, juicy, and full of flavor.

Next up was Snowdon Deli, a local favorite pronounced as “SnowdonDel”. The vibe was warm and inviting still busy. The portions generous and prices reasonable. Think “deli” vibes people come to catch and grab a bit to eat in the neighborhood.

And finally, Dunn’s, the 24-hour option that satisfied my late-night cravings. The sandwich was piled high with meat, and the rye bread was toasted to perfection.

In the end, it was a tough decision between Schwartz’s, Dunn’s, and Snowdon Deli, but I have to give the edge to “X%^$*” for their distinct flavor and timeless charm.

But don’t take my word for it – head to Montreal and try them all for yourself. Trust me, it’s worth the trip.

  1. Well it’s a hard call. There are 2 other options yet to explore. Across the street from Schwartz’s upstairs & Lester’s. Some even say Chenoy’s. Think you should photograph all 6 and then put out a poll to let les Montrealais decide. It may come down to the half-sour pickles or tomatoes though

    1. Hi Lyon,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment on my post. I really appreciate your suggestion of exploring the other deli options in Montreal, including Lester’s and Chenoy’s. It’s always great to have more choices and opinions when it comes to finding the perfect sandwich.

I love the idea of photographing “all six” deli’s next time I’m in Montreal. Also like the idea of letting the more than just the Montreal community to decide which one reigns supreme. I think being more inclusive and hearing different perspectives and experiences is always interesting when it comes to finding the best sandwich/ food, and everyone’s feedback is valuable. It would be interesting to see if the decision comes down to the pickles or tomatoes, as you mentioned.

Again, thank you for your feedback and for sharing your thoughts. I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect with fellow foodies and share my passion for good food.

On the other hand, until Celine Dion bought Schwartz’s, the ambiance there was by far Number 1.

Friday night rocked- running into old college buddies who you hadn’t seen in 20 years; HS football buds, old, now married girlfriends, all while eating a grilled liver entre (for fainting) or a steak seasoned to perfection with fresh garlic and spices, and finally leaving without a bill, hitting the cash register and verbally telling the cashier what your party and you ate but equally important sitting away from someone you didn’t know- all adding to the succulent flavor of the smoked meat sandwich. But I digress. These were memorable times.
